blowing the scope right off the gun (scope rings broke)

Ok. I had the scope blow right off my gun last week. Scope rings broke. (Right where they mount to the gun) I had an EGW scope mount. And 1 set of weaver grand slam steel rings. The gun was a 15” 45-70 pistol barrel on an encore rifle... I new I should of used more then one set of rings but did not have time to go buy more.

(on my 50calbp and 7mm I use 4 rings on them)

I don’t have pic’s of the broken rings I got warranty on them.

Now I need to order up some new rings. and yes the scope rings where installed right.

weaver grand slam steel rings are good rings but not for a 15" pistol barrel.

i have used weaver grand slam steel rings on all my other guns and never had one brake. Maybe it was a factory defect?

Steel shouldn't just break like that. It must have been an error with the heat treating or something. Steel can be get really brittle after heat treating if it's not annealed or tempered properly, assuming weaver heat treats there stuff.

What ever floats your boat. BUT just as NoNeck180 pointed out, if you use quality rings/bases (properly installed) 1 set of rings will be sufficient irregardless of what cartridge.
