blown primer, S&B new fmj ammo

If it's just doing it with the one kind of ammunition, perhaps blame the ammo?
Firing pin holes on the norcs are generally slightly oversize and just barely pass the firing pin hole gauge.

Either way, I would shoot different ammo as your rifle seems to have an obvious dislike for the S&B

SA surplus has been the worst for me. No catastrophies, but lots of primer flow and occasional piercing. This rifle has usgi bolt and internals and 1.634 headspace. I just don't shoot SA anymore and got rid of most of my stash of SA by dumping it down range in my beater rifle ;)

Lets not forget the factory can screw up. A little bit extra of the powders they are likely using goes a long way. I popped a few primers in my bolt gun awhile back. I never did figure it out. The one thing I didn't do before I pulled the bullets was check the C.O.L. It didn't occur to me to do it as I'm pretty carefull about seating depth. I'd speculate other than a mechanical fault resulting in a good chance it would happen with other ammo, or a bad batch of primers which would likely mean there was a bunch of guys with this prob, it would be due to too much powder or wrong seating depth, both things that probably happen all the time but get caught before it becomes a problem. A little crap in the machinery and a bullet seated a little too deep makes for big preassures if the loaded ammo makes it into a retail box.

I did blow a primer big time just the other day. My caliper was a little past its best before date and I'd seated a SMK a little too hard into the lands with my Win Mag. The damm primer just fell out when I ejected the round. It's not really possible to have this happen feeding through the mag but if it's seated too deep it has a similar and possibly much greater effect.

Just found a few Federal primed spent reloads and some Win 308 and PMC 7.62 I hadn't sized yet. Big difference in the indent. It really does look huge compared to the Winchester. The PMC looks to be about half way bettween the two.

I'm buying a few thousand CCI or Win primers next time I get the chance.
