Got a new fella coming. Heard that 200 gr Hornady interlocks were good. I'm also fond of the Hodgdon extruded extreme line. So I guess my question has been narrowed down to.

Has anyone used the 200 gr horns on top of H4198 4350 4895, etc with good results ?

I like the 200 FTX over 50 grains of Varget or the 200 SP over 47.5 grains of H4895. These are out of a M77...

200 gr Hornady's and 3031 make a very good combination. 4895 is a little slower but works good also.4350 is way to slow.

My favorite most accurate load in my .358 BLR is....
Win .358 brass
Fed 210 LR primer
47gr of IMR 3031
Hornady 200gr SP.
this load shoots a 3 shot group into a single jagged hole at 75yrds.

My next in line would be...
Win .358 brass
Fed 210 LR primer
47gr of IMR 3031
Speer 220gr flat nose
this load shoots 3 shot clover leaf group at 75yrds.

I have tried W748, and IMR4895 with these bullets as well,...these powders shot good groups as well but not as tight as 3031.

Congratulations on your purchase of a very nice, great little, excellent handling, fast pointing, excellent fitting, smooth action, rapid repeating, proud to own rifle, LOL..... Incase you didn't guess,...I love my .358 BLR.
The deer, bear, elk, moose, what ever in your neck of the woods are in real jeopardy, lol. Have fun and good luck.

I currently use the Hornady 200 Spitzers over IMR 3031 for my 358 and can vouch for it's
effectiveness on deer, I have never recovered a bullet to date always pass through's,
I tried other powders like IMR4064 and 4320 they all worked well but I got my best accuracy
from the 3031.

Try Ramshot TAC in the 358 with Federal 215M primers. "Match made in heaven!" My Savage 358 will shoot the 180gr Hornady SSP (single shot pistol) spitzer bullets over a stout load of the above into under 1" @ 200yds. My wife's in bed and my load data is there or I could give you exact details. Congratulations on your purchase. 358 Winchester is one of the most useful cartridges there is IMHO. It's so darned efficient and easy to make shoot. It's also very nearly the perfect cast boolit shooter. You can load to full power with high load density and not over speed heavy boolits - if you do it right.

I'm running Varget with Hornady 200gr. SP's, I've also used the same powder with 225's.

It would appear from my research that any powder from 3031burn rate up to and including Varget/Rl15 burn rate are a good fit in the cartridge.

Lots to choose from........ Go forth and prosper!

I've looked at a BLR in this caliber long and hard several times - is it as fun to shoot as I imagine?

Yes. Go git one.
Mine shoots 180', 200's and 250's all in a line.
No windage variance which is slightly incredible.
Same powder charge for the 180 & 200's.
Couple inches in elevation give or take an 1/8"th or so.
The 250's fall rather dramatically. Need to play with more
propellant and see if I can tighten the cascade.

Yup, lots of fun. I have a cabinet full of rifles and I enjoy shooting and hunting with the .358 BLR the most.
Go get one ,...you won't regret it.
I have one more gun on my list to pic up in the next few months, (x-bolt stalker), and then I am ordering another .358 BLR,...I think I'll order the "stainless walnut" or maybe the "model 81".

I've got a 1977 BLR in 358.
I use 49 grains of IMR 4064 behind a 200 gr Hornady SP Interlock.
MV is about 2475.
Very accurate!
The rifle has a short throat so some bullets such as the Nosler accubond are too long and won't work.
