BLR '81 vs. BLR pre-'81 stocks

Does anyone know if a stock from a Browning Lever Rifle from a post-'81 will fit a pre-'81?

Any idea how to tell the two stocks apart from just looking at them?

Hi there, I am not a Browning expert but I think the checkering is differnt on the pre 81's. The pattern on the buttstock is shorter I think. I could send you some pic's if I had a email address. I can't seem to post pic's on this site. Also the bolt hole is slightly larger on the post 81's but they will work in my experience. Kent

Yes, my checkering looks very different on my post 1981 BLR. Also they came with different recoil pads after 1988 I think. Max
