blr in 30-06??

I've heard complaints about them being hard to take apart all the way, something about having to get the lever lined up just right when putting it back together or something?...

I'd love one in 450 Marlin though...

My friend just sold his. He said its a great spring/summer/fall gun but he said if any snow gets in the action (like from a tree branch falling) that he couldn't get it to cam closed fully. He does a lot of winter walking and now only will use a bolt action for simplicity sake.

Excellent rifles. They are very fast handling and accurate for what they are. I had one in .300 WM, .30-06, .308 and still have one in .243. All of mine have been very reliable, although I never did shoot the .300 WM.

Can’t recall the exact year - probably mid-seventies - my wife bought me a BLR chambered to 308 - which I still have. It served as my main hunting rifle until a few years ago although I still take it on the occasional hunt. Easy to carry and never fails to do what I ask of it.

My friend had one in 308. He hated it because every time he had a shot at game it wouldn't shoot. Maybe a previous owner messed with it. In any case, after the failures, he went back to his remington 7600 and got rid of it.
Maybe you will get a good one. For myself though, no thanks, too complicated action.

^ maybe snow fell from a tree into the action

BLRs rule. Don’t take them apart you don’t need to.

Their triggers are “meh”. I never owned a long action one but apparently their lever throw is a bit long. People like to complain and spread hearsay

i used a blr one time and shot a moose with it was a 308 pre-81. i have long arm and wanted one in 30-06 but the lever throw was a little too long and have long arms ...

i do not know about the snow and blr but i have seen that with other rifles ...

I've not heard a lot of folks who owned those long action BLRs that liked them.

They were heavy and never very popular. I'd avoid it.

My cousin runs one in .30/06. Over long, heavy and lousy trigger but he likes it. Also I have fired it some and I'm not recoil sensitive but hockey puck "recoil" pad on his makes it really unpleasant to fire. Needs a Limbsaver or comparable.

My dad had an all steel 358 win that was a neat rifle. Hideous but neat. I had a stainless takedown in 450 marlin for a bit. Had to put the butt stock on your knee and reef on the lever to get it to extract. Polished the chamber to no avail, I heard of more than a couple people having that problem with the 450s. Also neat, and also hideous.

I don’t like them in 30-06 action length, too long lever throw! But in the 308 action length they are pretty neat!

Love my BLRs (have 3) - In short action (2 in .358 and 1 in 308).
I find the longer action models (30-06) don't quite fit me right, but man the short action ones are awesome.
As a handy, accurate lever action its a superb gun. Not a bench rest / 300 yard rifle.

I love them in short action cals too,the 30-06 kicked the crap outta me too much recoil to be accurrate .Id rather shoot my 45/70 all day then plug 5 rounds of 06 thru a blr.

I have had a few BLRs, always take down straight stock model 81s, I have heard non take down models are hard to clean, when I was younger I always wanted a BLR in 30 06 but over the years I have found I prefer bolt actions, BLRs are a quality rifle and I like the look of the straight stock models, when you work the lever the ones I had felt solid and smooth. The local gunsmith always seems to have a few on the rack that have been taken apart and they now had synchronisation issues. The ones I had were all short actions, the long actions didn't seem to shoulder as well for me.
