Just picked up a used BLR 81 short action. Everything on the gun is great except the forearm is somewhat loose. It moves side to side just a bit and up and down a bit as well. The front near the barrel-band seems fine but the receiver end is moving. I don't want to shoot it until the forearm is properly secured. Anybody ever had this problem? How do I go about fixing it? Does it need to go to a smith?

Well if you can not diagnose the 'why' part of why it is loose it would be best if a knowledgeable smith had a look at it... does it have a sling swivel at the front of the forend? Often those are installed with spacers but not always correctly.

This was exactly the problem. The forend is now nice and tight. I have never had a BLR with sling swivels before. Thanks alot for the tip!

Thanks two-dogs. I'm enjoying it so far and haven't even shot it yet! It's a .257 roberts. I have been looking for one for a few years now. I bought it off an old fellow in Perth, ON who still had the original box of shells with 8 missing. Still has a greasy action. I just happened to be looking on Firearms Canada the day it went on. I can't wait to get it over to the range.

Sounds like yours is the queen of the safe! Mine's headed that way to...I don't know if I am going to be able to bring myself to hunt with this one but it should make for some good range trips. As much as I'd love to hunt with this one, I have a BLR in .358 which I'll be carrying for whitetails this year. I should be taking the bob to the range on Tuesday though. I'm not a reloader but I will let you know how she shoots. I am thinking about going with the Hornady SST 117 grs.
