Loaded up some 350 grain jacketed bullets (Hornady flat point) for the BLR in 450 Marlin, only to get to
the range and discover they are too long for the mag. I think there was a thread on here a while back where
someone swapped the (thinner) mag insert from a different BLR mag to overcome this? Anyone done this,
and if so, what magazine do I need for this mod? I cannot locate the above mentioned thread...

IIRC you need a 325 WSM magazine to load things long in the 450 Marlin. Not sure if all WSM cartridges use the same mag or if the 325wsm mag is unique to that cartridge.

Suther, thanks for the reply. So, yes, I do have a BLR in 270 WSM and I just tried the 450 Marlin 350 grain rounds in that magazine. Seems to work fine. There is a radical difference in the design of these mags. The 450 Marlin has a pinned-in-place (not moveable) front the ramp insert, while in the WSM mag the follower is a full length one piece unit that allows for the longer 450 rounds. Can't believe my luck. :) Looks like I have solved the 'problem'.

Glad it worked out for ya! I hear you can squeeze out some pretty impressive ballistics from the 450 Marlin with those longer magazines.

.325 WSM BLR mag fits my .450M BLR more bullet options.

It would appear that any BLR WSM magazine will accommodate the 270, 7mm, and the 300 WSM cartridges. Interesting.
