Just wondering if anyone has tried one of the "new" reproduction mags for the pre-81 yet? Available at Numrich (maybe others?) for 85 USD.

I've yet to see them available from a Canadian supplier, but my understanding is ordering this kind of mag from the USA should be no problem.

Been looking for a while for a spare for my pre-81, but sure was not going to pay the prices people are asking. Also not really into the 3d printed ones unless I had no choice (cool idea, though). I'm thinking these repros may be a viable option.

Putting this out there for others info, and also curious if any fellow Canadians have purchased one yet.
 
If these work and work well they're going to take the wind out of the sails of the used markitt.
Seen them posted for $400.
$300 seem to be the breaking point.

Exactly what I'm hoping will happen...there's a few posed even above 400$ right now on gp.
 
I am really looking forward to receiving this. I got notification from Numrich that it has been shipped. I looked at the 3DMAG ones, but I just couldn't bring myself to putting one of those in my beautiful Belgium made BLR. Nothing against 3D, I have purchased mags for my bolt action Tikka with zero issues and I am very pleased. As stated, the price of used ones are beyond ridiculous!
 
Finally, my magazine arrived today. At first glance the magazine appears to be identical to the stock mag in every way but that is where any similarities end! The repo mag does not hold 4 shells properly, the last one jumps out as soon as you try to insert the mag. Once the mag is inserted, it falls out as soon as you lever the action! When you can get the mag to stay in, feeding and ejection is a nightmare! Conclusion.....what a piece of junk!!!! I haven't decided to try and return to Numrich or tinkle with it and see if I can get it to work. I wish that I have have passed along a more successful review.

Wow! I've had one of these sitting in my cart, but glad I waited for your review before pulling the trigger. That's unfortunate. Does it work properly with only 3 rounds, or are the feeding problems always present?

Sheesh, you wouldn't think this would be rocket science. Sorry for your experience, but thanks for sharing (maybe numrich will help you out, by chance yours is a one off problem?).
 
I am going to contact Numrich tomorrow. I will keep you posted. Looking at this closer, it appears the front tab on the mag is slightly off location. It does function better with only 3 rounds (which I could live with), but still unreliable feeding.
 
Upon closer inspection, the repo mag is 1mm smaller than the original. The back tab on the mag doesn't engage the locking tab on the rifle properly, therefore the magazine moves forward when the action is worked, thus causing it to become disengaged. Spoke with a representative from Numrich, and although they were very friendly and apologetic about my concern, they did admit that the tolerances on the repo mag may not be suitable for all rifles. I am returning the mag to Numrich.
 
Well that's unfortunate, but at least they will take your return I guess. I believe there are some known fit issues between Belgium and Japanese made pre-81's, so maybe this makes sense, and perhaps these mags would fit in a Miroku pre-81. The saga continues...

I have sold 11 of these repros. All were proved to the gun they were to be used in with no issues at all.
 
its the same company that makes all the savage 340 mags and for that matter non of them work they fail right out of the bag we dont sell any of them any more junk
im not surprised it failed
