Looking to acquire a blr. do you offer any advice on straight stock/pistol grip? I will shoulder both to see how they fit, just looking for pro's and cons of both. thanks guys

I do not believe that there are any pros and cons in this. It is what best fits your physic etc. I own one :) and I too prefer the straight grip over the pistol.

When I compare my 94 to my BLR with the pistol grip, I got to say I like the BLR better.....comfort wise.

I have a BLR .308 straight grip purchased in about 1980. It shoots about MOA and has been very reliable. The older models have a steel action whereas I think some of the newer models are made from alumimum which would not be quite so rigid so I am not sure what the accuracy would be like. The gear on the older models is also made of steel. A buddy of mine had his break in cold weather and discovered the gear was made of some space age plastic.

I suggest you go to a store that stocks both, and try them for fit and personal feel. One will just feel better to you. The BLR is a great rifle...I personally prefer the new, lightyweight models.

Supplementary Question

While on the topic of the BLR, has anyone owned or seen the take down model? I hope the take down model can be cleaned from the breach. Is this the case?

Also, does the take down rifle maintain zero when taken down and then put together again?

if the barrel comes off, which is the case, it CAN be cleaned from the breech( note spelling) - as far as the accuracy goes, the old take downs used to loosen up through time and probably the softness of the steels used at the time- it's probably still an interuppted thread design, so yes, the same rules apply unless you use the optional scout mount- there , the scope is NOT separating from the barrel, so i don't see why it would shift- in the conventional, mount, yes-also , buying one of these new, i can't see it shooting loose unless you do a LOT of shooting- 2nd or third owner after HEAVY USE, yea, i can see it
