BLR rifle opinions??

I owned a few, never really thought of them as a long range rifle for the reasons already stated here, I owned newer straight stock, short action, take down models, [easier to clean]. the long action models never shouldered well for me, I never owned a pistol grip model only because I prefer the look of a straight stock, I have heard the pistol grip models handle recoil better . The local gunsmith always seems to have a few on the rack waiting to get the timing corrected after they have been taken apart. I have decided I don't like levers with the exception of BLRs and still want one in 450 Marlin [if the brass and ammo supply ever gets corrected]. I have heard them described as a lever operated bolt action. I also never cared for the heavy shiny finish Browning puts on their wood, so I prefer the stainless laminate models.

Great, handy little rifles, accurracy is decent ,very good if you spend the time and try different ammo to see what it likes.Ive had many and love the steel reciever models, the aluminum models I do not like .

Avoid disassembly. Reassembly can be a challenge.

The hammer spring is small diameter, inside a tube extending from the receiver into the grip. Gummed lube or crud cause misfires, particularly in cold weather. The stock is retained by a bolt threading into this tube. Stock must be removed to access the hammer spring. Recoil pad must be removed to remove the stock.

Always liked the BLR'S , have a BL22 which is great to plink with
maybe short range shooting .
First one I had was a .243 , now that is almost the perfect
Deer gun right up to 150 mtrs. , never shot at any thing further.
...skwerl

Owned 3 pre 81 BLR'S , 243 and 308 Belgium , 358 Japan. Easy to carry never thought of them as long range rifles, more then capable out to 200 yds or so. Mine all had 1.5x6 Scopes. Triggers were nasty, but alot were in the early 70's
They 308 was the only one purchased new, $195 with 2 boxes of ammo. Winchester 88's were $160 something in 1972.

My older brother gave me or passed down our dads Win 88/308 and went for the BLR in same cal.
Works well out here in the prairies.
I like the blr trigger way more than the 88. As much as I love my 88, I love the look and feel of more steel on the blr.

For a lever that can shoot a vast amount of cartridges with pointy bullets, it's that or the Henry's today.
Blr is a little bit of a complicated lever compared to just about any other, but they are strong actions.
Savage 99's are way cooler though, but limited options in cartridges.
I'm not that much of lever action fan, good Ambi gun for lefties I guess, bolt guns are still more accurate, and if I need faster follow up shots I'd grab a semi.

First rifle was a BLR in .308W

My neighbour and a member here watched shoot a decent Bull Moose with it. Following year I took a running shot on a 10pt WT with it. My Dad convinced me to trade it in on a Browning A Bolt first gen in 7mmRM. I regret doing that till this day

Well, I pulled the trigger, so to speak, on a steel receiver BLR in 243win. Guess I'll find out if I like it? Spent money in way worst ways than guns!! Just felt right in my paws, the action won me over as well, smooth like budda!! Thanks guys, Moosin

Mine was a Miroku Lightweight takedown that I sold here on the EE just before the pandemic (pics from my WTS ad below).

I liked the compact handiness of the short action in .308, and always thought the takedown made for a great backup rifle, easily stowed away.

Downside was the heavy trigger. Cold bore accuracy was good, but that dropped off fast as the lightweight’s barrel heated up quickly. Still fit with the intended purpose of the rifle though, which was never meant to be a paper puncher or a plinker.
