BLR scope and back up sight options advice

I have a couple BLR's with scopes and egw rails. The older rails were 3mm lower and will allow you to see the factory iron sights. You can see how much lower the black receiver mount is than the silver receiver rail. I was disappointed when I bought the newer one and couldn’t see my iron sights. Missed it in the thread. New B. Thank you, too Holijay.

IDK why EGW changed the rail height, ruining the sight plane for the irons. Kinda sucks !

As a work around one could bring the rail to a machine shop and have the groove cut down by 3-4 mm and if necessary deepen the countersink for the mounting screws. You may have to shorten the mounting screws as well...

Just as a matter of interest, if anyone's interested. Spent an afternoon messing around with this meself. Took off the EGW rail. Installed Skinner rail with integrated peep. Removed Leupold low rings from Burris Fullfield 2.5-10X42. Installed Leupold medium rings. Scope too far forward it bottomed on the peep sight. Too far rearward it bottomed on the Skinner rail at the front. Couldn't get a $20 polymer note through the gap. Turned the air blue. Removed Skinner rail/sight. Reinstalled EGW rail. Left the Medium rings on because they're better for my thumb to wiggle into the hammer under the scope. Reset eye relief and levelled scope. Done with Skinner.

That's good info, thanks ! I just had a look at the option on their web-site. Looks a kinda strange to me...

However, at the time I've ordered rail directly from EGW. They were actually good to deal with and answered emails.

I think they are still offering custom height rails at about USD 30,- more than stock rails. Could be worth a shot (y)

So here's the explanation. This project started because we hunt in the big north woods of Ontario. It's a driven hunt using people and dogs as drivers. Some of the stands have clear shooting lanes and others are dense brush. I wanted to be able to have my scope for open areas and be able to use irons in dense stuff. Return to near zero is possible with Leupold QRW2. It's also a good plan in the event of scope damage. The BLR irons are spectacular but built for hunters 40 years my junior. I had 20/15 vision but those days are gone. The factory sights are so fine I cant see them. Hence the peep sight project. After frustrating diddling around I've decided on a good sight replacement....I bought a new shotgun and will use a two gun case. Don't tell my wife.
