I have tried to search for info on this, but I get no results, so here's my question - sorry if it's been answered elsewhere - what scopes have folks used for a 'scout' type mount - i.e. on the barrel, forward of the receiver - on a BLR Takedown?

Browning sells a mount specifically for this rifle.

Which version did you get? And how do you like it? I've been lusting after one of those!

Yes, I know they have that mount, I wondered what scopes folk used, given the very long eye relief when the scope is that far forward.

The BLR I bought is the Model 81 Takedown in .308 (straight grip):

It really is worth the price - it cycles as smooth as silk & it's incredibly fun to shoot. :D

Sorry, I misread your post. Leupold makes a 2.5x scout scope that should work perfectly for you. Burris also has or had a similar scope. I have one of each, the Leupold on a Steyr Scout and the Burris (in 1x) on a Marlin SBL and they both work very well...the Leupold is a bit brighter.

Leupold is supposed to be bringing out a variable power low-range scout scope that a few people have mentioned on this site, but I haven't seen one yet. It should be ideal. I sometimes wish for a bit more power when hunting with the .308; being able to dial up to 5x or thereabouts would be welcome.

If you decide to experiment with handgun scopes, be careful. Some of them work with some rifles, but most of them have too much eye relief to mount in the scout position. It's a PITA to find just the right scope and get it mounted in just the right place, and shooting/aiming with the scout concept takes some getting used to, but it's fast and accurate when you get the hang of it.

I like that gun! That's exactly the chambering and configuration that I am leaning towards myself. Please post here when you get it scoped up.:)
