Okay so I've narrowed it down to a bar short trac in 308 or a blr lightweight pistol gip in 308.
I have heard that the BLR is superior in the accuracy department as well as more reliable etc. I've handled both rifles and seem to prefer the blr. It seems perfectly balanced for a still hunting carry rifle. One concern i have with the blr is clearance between the hammer and scope.
Anyone care to add there two cents?
Thanks
Billy

My hunting buddy has used a BLR in 308 for more of his life than he can remember, I'll bet on that, good gun. His has seen about everything there is to see and still kills every year.

The BLR is a bit more forgiving if you are a reloader. If you buy factory ammo both guns are good. The Browning Bar is a very nice gun and with a little testing of different powder loads and bullet weights, you will be very satisfied with groups.
As my friends say the BAR has a range finder built in being a semi auto.

Your hammer to scope distance issue can be solved with a hammer extension. The BAR is a fine rifle , but the ones i've seen, like a lot of gas operated semi's need to be kept clean to cycle properly. The burnt powder residue can build on the gas piston and inside the gas cylinder.I've never seen any accuracy differences btween the BLR and the BAR.

They both work good for me and i can lever with accuacy just about as fast as i can get back on target with the semi.I like the BLR best for carring in the bush.
Bar 30-06
Blr 7mm-08

Had a BLR 308 and BAR 7mm. Sold the easy to carry light weight BLR to carry the heavy BAR. It should come down to what you want?

Had the BAR in 300 Winchester magnum for 20+ years. It would shoot circles around lots of bolt actions. It was my go to for everything. No functional problems at all if kept clean. Easy to strip and clean. I worked on a BLR, and it's not my favorite to take apart and reassemble.

The BAR is one semi I've not had problems with, and I wouldn't question it's accuracy. It's likely better than most BLRs.
Given the choice, and this is for me, I'd take the BLR anyway. It's light, handy, and very fast.

BLR: I have owned both and the BLR was accurate and in my humble opinion more reliable is ####ty weather.
