Just bought a S&W M&P. It has blue plastic looking crap on one end of the return spring. What the heck is it and how do I take it off? Anybody else seen this stuff?

I always assumed it was something that helped with the slick operation of the pistol and let it be. A few thousand rounds later and it is still there without any sign of damaging anything and the pistol works even better than new.
I think it's so that non-gun people (police persons) don't put the spring-guide assembly in backwards. Same reason for the yellow on the sear release lever, otherwise it might require a brain to strip and re-assemble, can't have that.
As was mentioned above, its to help orient the recoil spring the proper way. Why remove it when nobody is gonna see it and it may help save u grief in future if assembled incorrectly?
