After a day at the range with my newly aquired, used, M & P 9mm I was cleaning her up and noticed blue scaling on the back 1/3 of the recoil spring. Doesn't come off with solvent, nor vigourus scrubbing with my nylon brush. Any suggestions as to how to remove this.

I had some of that blue stuff on my M&P spring... it came off with cleaning. I think it was an identifier paint of some kind but it should wouldn't harm anything.

It's either identifier paint or maybe some blue left from the final heat treatment of the spring called "normalizing". Often the springs are then tumbled with some sort of media to clean them back to a nice silver. But maybe yours was stuck and didn't get the full treatment. But this won't hurt a thing if that's the case.

"Dude...it's factory paint. Don't worry about cleaning your spring so much. Just wipe it off and add one or two drops of oil on it once in a while. The spring should be a 3 second part of your cleaning."

What he said. You'll be dumping it in 5,000 rounds anyway.
