I have decided to get myself a std barrel profile LH bolt for smacking coyotes and for general carrying around.
I was looking at the Tikka T3 lite stainless in 223. I load for the 223 now and have an AR, so that is the cartridge I am leaning towards. I was about to buy one when I saw the Prophet River has the Ruger Hawkeye LH in blued and wood in 223. The Ruger is $80 more, but then I do not need to worry about rings and bases, so it all works out. I owned a Ruger 77 MKII in 30-06 that was quite accurate, and I have used the Tikkas and so were they; I think it is a wash in that regards.
I was brought up with wood and blued guns and I love the looks of them. I also know for a pounding around rifle, the stainless and synthetic is better, especially with the detachable magazine.
Any opinion would be appreciated on which one to lean towards. Thanks in advance for any help. I would love a Ruger LH in stainless and laminate, but I do not think they make them anymore in 223.
