Blued GP100 Question

Hi folks,
Thinking of getting a blued Ruger GP100 and wondering if anyone that has one can give their opinion/thoughts on it ?
I've owned a stainless one before and it was a great gun, no problems or complaints at all, just wondering about the quality/look of the blueing, is it even, good looking, do you regret not getting a stainless ?
I want it to be a nice looking gun, I've had some blued guns before that didn't look to nice after a while, I'm not expecting Colt quality or anything like that, just something decent that I won't regret buying.

i dislike the blued versions. im not a fan of the blueing, to me it looks cheap and sh!tty. SS all the way baby and way easier to clean and keep clean, and looks way better.
 
I enjoy mine, it's my Steel Challenge revolver. I don't care much for stainless revolvers. Wish I could have gotten my 617 in an equivalent blued model (not sure such a thing exists).

Fits right in there with my Smiths and others.

ive had mine for like 4-5 years now and no problems at all with the bluing on it.
nice deep and rich bluing and no fading or anything.

i picked up the blued one on purpose because sometimes you just want a dark gun that dosnt glow in the dark.....

I have a GP100 in both blue and stainless. The blue on the Rugers is not anywhere near as nice as on the S & W revolvers is but it is just fine. Most people who have problems with blued guns don't know how to look after them or clean them.

All this being said it is much easier to fix marks or scratches on a SS gun.

The bluing is fine, not 1970's Smith fine but it does it's job. If you never shoot it, handle it or rotate the cylinder it'll look like the day you bought it 20 years from now.:p I like mine, but wish there was more support for sights and such as the original ones are kinda meh.
 
My GP blueing is not the best, my Dads Alfa and Tracker are better. The rest of my GP is great!! I would have got the stainless, but I did not want to wait for one at the time. I like the trigger on mine and how it shoots, or I would have sold it to get a stainless one.
 
It's perfectly serviceable. The only marks on mine is the turn line that it came with from the factory. It's not presentation grade like an old Smith or Hi Power - it's a service pistol.

I've also put SP101 style grips on mine, like Monty has - much thinner at the top than the stock grips and less chunky over all.

My Smiths have nicer triggers, but that chunky little 4.25" Ruger is so nice to shoot that it's a keeper.
 
well, i certianly wouldn't say that Alpha's have nicer bluing then ruger, but ruger isn't smith and wesson either. That being said, it's complete, reasonably durable and looks ok. Personally i prefer the look of a blued gun, but my high volume shooters are SS as it's easier to keep clean.

Smith has their K22 out in the classic series now. It's a pretty nice looking revolver. Annnnd i don't have a 6" 22 revolver.....opps....i don't like where this is heading! You may have cost me some money :(
 
Had mine since the GP first came to Canada. Bought it from Le Baron's in Mississauga. Was a demo with some scratches on the cylinder where the hand had worn the finish off. No discount for a used/demo gun from Le Baron's either. Fit my hand perfectly and bought it anyway.
Shot bullseye with it for years. Like all factory revolvers, it requires a trigger job. Easy to do though. Much easier to do than any Smith trigger. SS internal parts.
The blue on the GP is not bluing. It's some kind of paint-like finish. Still gets eaten by vinegar to bare metal though. Found that out when forming a holster I had dyed with a vinegar based dye(home made with vinegar, steel wool and some black walnut bark). Cold bluing fixed it with no fuss.
In any case, any blued firearm will show wear over time. If you like the SS GP, the blued is the same thing.

Yikes!!!!! I took my blued one home for a little over $600, stainless were like $650 in 2012.
