I searched the forum and I couldn't find an answer. Do Savage actions benefit a lot from blueprinting? I am in the preliminary research stage of deciding how I want to approach customizing my gun. I thought that a Shilen barrel and a McMillan A5 stock would be good choices. From what I have read, Remington 700 actions are much imporoved after blueprinting. Is the same true for Savage actions?

Cheers.

Savage actions

Mysticplayer explained at length the advantages of the Savage design, you might check through his postings. Basiclly, use as is.Most guys change the recoil washer for a machined one.

I managed to find a thread about blueprinting (that went WAY off track and included some robust mud slining) that discussed Savage actions. I couldn't figure a clear answer from that particular thread. As my plan is a long term project I don't need to decide in the near future, however any input would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Short answer is no, use a custom recoil lug as mentioned and screw on a barrel. If your going with a barrel nut I would get a trued one at the same time as you get the recoil lug, sharp shooter supply . com

All factory actions are warped from heat treating after machining, considerably warped.
The Rem is trued because the lugs have poor contact on many of them, its definately a know accuray issue.
The Sav has a floating bolt head so the lugs make good contact usually.
Truing means to have the face, threads and lug seat dead true to the action's bolt. If one thing is trued, they all must be.

Cheers
