Bluing and Case Colour Hardening

Any idea how much it would cost (ball park) to have a bolt action rifle barrel rust-blued and the remaining bits case colour hardened? Also, reputable gunsmiths who offer this service?

That's Rolf Martini. A Master Gun Maker from Austria.(lives/works out of Cranbrook, BC) He is also a highly recognized member of the North American Gun Makers Guild.

Anyone know if Oskar does bolt action receivers? I had heard Turnbull will not do them anymore. Problems keeping them from warping maybe? Thanks.

I hope that's not the case, never heard of warped receivers due to case colour hardening.

Warping can occur. In some cases they use pins to keep things like tangs straight on sxs action.

From what I have heard, there are a few select Mauser actions that will accept case colouring without warping..........some are German and Argentina actions.

Mine is an FN-made action. An early 1948 commerical variant. I will discuss with Ralf once he receives my rifle. If there's concern, I will have the barreled-action properly rust-blued, and discuss finish on remaining metal pieces.
