Bluing over Brazing

I've got an old barrel I'm going to try to reblue (with the cold blue stuff). Just wondering if the blue will hold on the brazing that someone used to fasten the front site?

Blueing, hot or cold doesn't really do anything to brazing. It may dull it a bit.

If you are only using the el quicko cold bluing, a felt pen is probably as good as anything for the brazing.

I guess with the felt pen I can color the barrel in different colors too, so that'd be nice. Maybe give it the Christmas theme.

Can-o-muffler paint might do the trick.

... 'Won't work on brazing ! It's basically a "rusting process" and brazing material is a brass/bronze non rusting material. Some form of paint is probably your best bet. .... David K.

You could also try Birchwood Casey's Brass Black.

Thats odd that brazing would even be used, a lot of heat is used, well more then what I would want on my firearm. Isn't most stuf like that silver soldered ?

They are furnaced brazed usually.

Not much difference in heat between silver soldering and brazing. At least not with the stuff I use. Both will change the heat treatment so you need to be careful where or what you silver solder.
