Bluing turning purple??

Looking at the pictures it appears that someone has used cold bluing on parts of the receiver. . Tough to say for certain but the receiver appears too shiny to be original finish. . I wouldn't worry over it a good hunting rifle just the same.
 
These Model 70's are selectively hardened at the receiver ring/locking lug seats, and at the extractor camming surface. Anyone who has glass-bead blasted one of these actions will have noticed this. The localized difference in grain structure and/or surface carbon content is the explanation for the difference in bluing colour. Generally, one has blue these slightly hotter for longer.
 
The post 64 Model 70's are somewhat different in finish, but here's a picture of a couple of my pre-64 M70's that'll give you an idea of what I was referring to.
