Bluing with Black Oxide?

I recommend black oxide from du-lite.

The dul-lite process is what the majority of US gun makers call "blued".

Any ideas where in Canada du-lite is available, or does it have to be bought strait from them in the states?

Thanks for bringing this thread back to the top, lejarretnoir, I spotted it just in time to cancel my Carswell order. I have had mixed success with their products and chalked it up to being less than expert, but it sounds like a big fat AVOID.

x2 on that - was toying with buying from them, but their prices and bad reviews have turned me off of it.

Do you mean the stuff called "tool black"? Did you use the gel or the liquid. Thanks

Any ideas where this tool black is to be found? I'm planning on experimenting with some different gun finishes this summer and may as well try a variety.

I found the tool black on KBC's online catalogue. Not sure what section I looked under though. I've never used the product.

Du-Lite is amazing, it is what we use to hot blue. We order it from the states. It requires a few tanks and a source of heat, not exactly a do it yourself weekend job. The Caswell product is advertised as using no caustic chemicals and needing no heat. However if you contact Caswell to tell them the product doesn’t work they suggest an acid bath and heating the solution lol. We'll be sticking with the Du-Lite.

Thanks for the Du-Lite tip CanAm! That kit they offer would work a lot better than the old style hot bluing method. Much simpler and cheaper. The cold oxide/bluing I find is OK, but never durable over the long haul.
