Had an acquaintance email me some pictures of a family heirloom and was looking for some identification and value. Your input and opinions are appreciated.

I would suspect North African, maybe into Turkey.
Probably not as old as it appears to be. May be a real gun, may be something made for the tourist trade. Barrel looks as if it had a funnel added to it to produce the flair.
 
I would side with Tiriaq on the origin; maybe India. The muzzle is strange and makes me wonder if the barrel was modified from some sort of musket barrel. The lock is called a miquelet lock with the mainspring on the outside and more importantly with the sear acting horizontally on the #### rather than acting vertically and internally on the tumbler. I would guess its value around $200. One from northern Europe in better condition would be $1500 or more by comparison

I would contact John Denner in Alexandria / Cornwall neighbourhood. He specializes in antique firearms, swords and that era of militaria.

And only on the Antiques Roadshow do you see the really valuable stuff emerge. Most old things are just that, old.
