Has anyone purchased or own a Flintlock Blunderbuss. I’m looking at the ones at Access Heritage Inc even though there is no stock until Nov some time. Is there any other place to get one of these.
Also are they considered antiques and don’t require a license and are they all under the stupid 20mm bull$$1t
I really want one of these bad and look like a pile of fun. Any help and direction would be appreciated. Also I own a flintlock pistol that I inherited and it’s restricted :bangHead:
and have never shot it because I have no flint for it. Anyone know where I can buy that?
 
I got one from loyalist arms a while ago
Haven’t shot it yet, didn’t need a license to buy either
Not sure if the 20mm rule on these applies or not?

Thanks that looks like a great place and it’s right here in Canada. They have flint too! They are a little pricey at $800 but these are the real deal and look amazing. I would have thought that a brass barrel would not be that strong to shoot loads out of but I guess they must be alright or they wouldn’t sell them
 
They sell them and it’s your problem if you decide to drill the flash hole and shoot it. That’s how these companies wipe their hands of the matter. After talking to a guy who toured the armoury in India where they make these it further fortifies my disdain towards India made guns. The barrels are first cast and then the casting marks machined off. So shoot at your own risk. I’ve built two using quality American made barrels over the years.

Did you visit the website? They are not antiques. They are reproductions.

They are shipped without the vent hole being drilled so in that configuration they are non-functional and do not require a license. If you drill the vent hole however it would become a non-restricted firearm if it was a musket. Not sure about the blunderbuss due to the 20mm barrel.
 
Any flintlock long gun whether new or antique(pre 1898) is not considered to be a firearm. Grandma can own one without a license. As an afterthought I have flints in sizes from 1/2" pistol size up to 1 1/4" Brown Bess.

I definitely want to shoot it. I’m not into wall hangers. What about the ones on access heritage. Are they any better or stronger? How do you build these. Can I get a kit with a quality American made barrel. I’m pretty handy and have a lathe and could probably make a barrel but not much of a wood worker for the stock.
 
I had Loyalist go through the blunderbuss that I bought from them and they drilled the flash hole and installed the flint
They pretty much went through the whole thing but they didn’t proof test it
They gave me a lead ball and cannon fuse in order to do so
I can’t remember what the fee was for them to go through the gun and drill the hole but it was reasonable

Are you and the reverend sure about that. Before May 1st I agree... but after that, not a chance until that OIC is adjudicated by a judge. The OIC "20mm clause" has a statement creating a "new prohibited firearms classification and by definition" that includes every "devise with a nominal bore of 20mm or larger" ...no exemption or dispensation for any age, firing method or qualifications for safe usage whatsoever. What was before, no longer is the case until a written judgment disqualifies it.

I got real excited about the stuff on that site a few years ago. Hugely disapointed after doing a bit of research on them. I read somewhere that some of the guns had barrels with a welded seam.
 
I would really suggest against one of the Indian made blunderbusses. The majority of the guns have lock reliability issues at the least, and potential safety issues with the barrels and breechplugs.
If anyone wanted a proper blunderbuss made, I could offer my services. I'm a muzzleloader builder out of northern BC. I get my top quality parts from the US and wood locally when possible.
Here is an 11 ga blunderbuss I made last year. It was a real blast with buckshot, and surprisingly accurate with roundball (could hit a milk jug at 25 yards).

Flint sell by Loyalist Arms is a must

Blair Higgins is a proud owner, respect customer .

I use Brownbess,french musket then more 10 years ago , no problem

French blunderbuss is very Funny with buckshot to the bush .
 
Just ordered a Traditions flint "blunderbuss" kit from the states, it's far from historically correct, and somewhat comical looking, but should be a fun little project through the winter. Hopefully CBSA let's it through
