I know that the BM59 is prohib, but does that include the semi-auto BM62 and BM69? One would think that those would be non-restricted like the M305 right?

Also, does anyone here have a 62 or 69 and how much did you pay for it?
 
All variants of the BM59 are prohib. Can't see why though, since they are so rare to begin with.

One user here made a version using an M1 reciever and converted it to take M14 magazines, and was lucky enough to find a BM59 gas block and some other parts, which may as well be hens' teeth...

I do like the BM59 folding stock though.

They are prohibited because in the year that the parliamentary committee reviewed what guns were "suitable for sporting purposes", the BM59 was pictured in the Gun Digest gallery with a pistol grip (Nigerian version). ALL semi-auto rifles that appeared with pistol grips were later listed as prohibited.

If the standard version had been pictured that year, we would be happily hunting deer with BM62s to this day.

No, they ALL were. The AR was later downgraded to restricted. I forget how a single version of the Valmet came to be un-prohibited, but they were definitely prohib for a while. Other guns like the VZ, SIG, Tavor etc. simply didn't exist on the semi-auto market at the time, so they couldn't be named as prohibited.

The AR was prohibited until DCRA pointed out that you were pretty much supposed to use the Nation's Service Rifle in 'Service Rifle', the Valmet got around it by being shown in the 'hunter' version, which doesn't have a vertical pistol grip.
 
Ann McLellan (yes, Gun Grabbin Annie) was Justice Minister when the Valmet Hunter and M-78 were removed from the prohibited list as varients of the AK-47 rifle. What her rhyme and reasons were for removing those guns specifically, one can only guess. However it is the only useful thing she or any other lieberal has ever done in office, so I'm not complaining about this specific re-classification. I shoot my M-78 .223 out in the bush whenever I want. Bottom line is, they WERE prohibited for a time originally.
