Any one out there thinking of buying one of these.... take it from me, don't bother. There is NO AMMO avail. for them, and there hasn't been all summer. Out of all of the rifles I've ever purchased, it's been the biggest waste of money. I didnt plan on clubbing gopher's to death with it, and so far its the only thing its good for. Jeez. Winchester sure has dropped the ball on this one, IMO.....

END RANT. Flame on....

Didnt think of checking ammo availability first?

Isn't this why the majority of people wait and see how a new round pans out? Kinda surprised you felt this rant worthy...

Are you talking about the Savage BMag ?

Me brother bought that offering ,bought a sweet Boyds stock and a nice Bush 3x9 scope and bought a crap load of rounds in 20 and 25 grains from JoBrook here in manitoba for a lovely price ,I think she worked out to be about 14 and 16 bucks a 20 pack. Not bad. That was about 2 weeks ago.

I know ,I know......but keep in mind ,we both shoot 17 HM2 ,17 HMR ,17 Rem FB ,204 Rug ,22 Hornet ,222 (triple duce) and 22-250........and a little Weather. 257. So we both and all know what this round will do and not do ,but hey ,we collect guns.....so more gun....more fun. LOL

I do indeed plan on buying the 17 Hornet ,cause I can !

But yes ,new ,obscure....essoteric stuff like the new BMAG will be hard to get for awhile ,hell it`s some crazy 25 cal concrete shooter necked down to 17 cal.....crazy.....and I love it.

Viva wildcats and the crackpots who dream.

Cheers

Uhhhh.... yeah. When I purchased it back in December or so of last year, Cabela's had ammo. I bought 6 box's. In late spring I ran out. And since then, there has not been a box to be had in Winnipeg, or anywhere south of there.

Naw, im talking about the Lego BMAG..... ;-) jeez, of course the Savage. ANd yeah, I have a rifle in .17M2, a 17 HMR, 22-250, 220 swift, 223's... ect.... and of the 6 box's of 17WSM, i loved shooting gophers with them! they were like 16 bucks a box, and blew them to bits! It was looking to be my new go to cheap gopher gun... and its funny how there seem to be rounds to be had. but I cant find a BOX anywhere within 100 miles of winnipeg! NONE. and Ive asked a couple of my local shops to order me some, and they cannot find any either. I dunno, AFAIK there is no reason for such a shortage. Winchester just doesnt seem to be making enough.... and Paul. its not THAT new of a round anymore, maybe here in Canada, but it was avail in the US for just over a year before it arrived here......

That`s why i`m loading up on 17 HH2 ,because as far as i know ,nobody makes a bolt or semi in that round ,except for my Marlin Semi. That is a rim round that`s going the way of T-Rex and his Kin.
You know how it is ,a new rifle ,new round and the gun guys spin their stuff ,everybody get all excited ,buy all the ammo on the shelf and they can`t keep up.

1 year later ,the buzz dies down ,and nobody cares anymore and production of ammo follows too.Now we have rimfire and everything changes.....BIG time.

I`ll bet producing rimfire rounds is a lot more involved than centerfire ,in fact I know that .

Shoot, they have a bastard of a time trying to produce .22 cal rimfire......major shortage.....no kidding, I mean REALLY.......22 s ????

Remember going anywhere and buying CCI Stingers....no probs. Now try to find those bastards ,not to mention Hornets......damn.

Moral of the story ,when you see it, buy it.I remember before the Yanks got all crazy and paranoid and free trade was good (?) I bought up a whole bunch of 22 tracers ,30-06 and 308.Now.....no sir !

The Bmag rimfire........I don`t see lasting too long.BUT ,buy up all the ammo you can ,cause it is a cool rimfire ,shoots nice and bloody well different !

Cheers

Out this way most stores have a few boxes. I'm going to one today. I'll check what they have for you.I do believe they will ship. Lebarons is the cheapest place to buy it here. $14-15 /50. Not sure if they would mail it thou. If you have a couple of other guys wanting some you could split on the shipping.
I bought the gun and 5 boxes of each ammo just in case there was a lot of people getting on to this new round.
Scott...

.
Apparently Jo Brook in Brandon has some. That is a two hour drive from Winnipeg and while not within your 100 mile radius, it is about 120 miles. I would phone first to confirm that it is in stock and try to reserve some -- credit cards are good for reservations.

You bought 6 boxes? 300 rounds is about a half days shooting in some of our gopher fields in the South West of Manitoba.

I have to agree with "BLASTED_SABER" with his advice on buying a new rifle. However, some people MUST have the latest flavor of the week, and never think of what might happen in the future.

Anyone remember the 5mm Remington Magnum rimfire?

Indeed ,my brother bought a few 1000 rounds of 20 & 25 grn from JoBrook ,they had a sale ,so I advised him to stock up.

I too am guilty of the "flavour" syndrome...LOL
