Boar Hunting

I'm not sure that the video proves what he wants it to prove. He shot a 200 pig with a bullet more suited for 2000 pound animals. It ran, so that proves his choice was perfect? I look at the same situation as "proof" that his choice was not perfect. Good enough, perhaps.

If you actually/literally "pin" their shoulders they can't run. Not enough horsepower in the azz end to go anywhere with both shoulders on the ground and useless and the boiler house dewatted.

I used the .375 H&H also with clients but to put this into some perspective, I have taken a .22 inside a hog trap and dispatched numerous ones.

Shot placement is still King or at least a better King.

I've been wanting to try it for years, and I finally have the chance. What advice can anyone give me on boar hunting. I'm an avid deer and moose hunter, so I am hoping to be able to apply some of those skills.

Went with a buddy last fall to hunt boars. Northern Alberta in November.

A few points I picked up on early…
-They like thick bush, and will not go out in the open unless they HAVE to
-Don't make them mad. They will charge
-For the most part, nocturnal.

We were walking a path, staggered, when my buddy up front had the ground lift in front of him and a handful of them went running. Never experienced anything like that.

I found this video very instructional!

I know it's a rather plain choice. But I think a 12 gauge slug gun would be a tad better tool in that thick cover. But that's just me folks.
If the shooter knows his drop at 75 and 100 yards/meters with good sights, it's a very fine item for this task. And they will not go far with two 3/4 inch holes in them.
IMO his was not the perfect shot. He hit it too high, hence missing the heart and lungs but getting the lungs only.
Anything higher and he could have entirely missed the lungs too and perhaps not striking the spine area. Not freaking good at all!!!

Buddy's hunt was boring, crowd them a bit with a 10 gauge magnum stuffed with 0000 buckshot would be really exciting and film worthy at 30 yards!!

Careful now. :)
