Boat Duck Blinds

Last year i built one out of PVC pipe and put fast grass on it. I am looking at the beavertail boat blind right now, looks like its decent and when i drive the boat i can fold it down. This is one of the problems i had with the PVC blind, it was tough to drive the boat and usually it took two people to drive the boat out of the small channel. Ive got a 1448 lowe john boat with a 25 hp 2 stoke merc on it.

I'm not a duck hunter but a few relatives of mine use burlap blankets draped over their boat, I believe they lay under and and call. Fairly thrifty method not the fanciest

Edit: A roll of burlap is $36 at Home Depot for a 100'x40"

I have a 1442 Jon, I built a scissor blind from 3/4 emt. If you can bend and weld it it's plenty strong and lightweight. I covered it with a surplus camo net and grass from the ditch. (The grass looks good, but needs to be replaced every year)

I bought a beavertail 14ft model on kijiji for 200$ . Only used it once last year but seemed great. Otherwise google duck blind and you'll get a ton of ideas.

I have seen and hunted from boats with homemade blinds made from 2x4's as well as pvc or emt in a fixed position. Hunted out of boats with emt made into a scissor blind that can collapse so you don't have issues driving the boat. I have also hunted out of boats with scissor blinds made by a manufacture. I have a Cabelas fall flight blind behind my shed as I sold my boat but hoping to get another soon. I like it and if functioned great. The Avery quik-set is also another decent one as is the beavertail offering. I would suggest buying the fast grass as it will last for years (if you look after it.....dry it out when it gets wet) and you don't have the hassles of grassing a boat blind every year with natural grass........I've done that and it is very time consuming.

Lots of plans out there for making homemade ones, I'm sure google will bring up a few.

I built mine from aluminum square tubing, made it to fold down flat, easy to see when driving out and loading on trailer. 2 seasons so far and wouldn't change a thing

NICE BOAT!! I hope you maxed out the horsepower? I just bought a 1654 Tracker Grizzly MVX Sportsman and like my two previous duck boats I maxed out my horsepower. The boat is rated for 40HP. It makes all the difference in the world when you have a boat fully loaded with people, gear and dogs. You'll appreciate the extra available torque for getting into shallow weedy areas and also getting the boat on step to cover some distance if needed getting to your area. Since these pics were taken I had the rear seat relocated to the right about one foot and the cranking battery moved up under the front casting deck beside the trolling motor battery then the boat rewired with heavier gauge wiring to carry the current the distance.
The video is the day I took it out to perform the engine break in. I am running along about halfway between the half and three quarter throttle mark.

Howdy all,

What are you guys doing for duck blinds on your boats. I am looking for ideas, just got a 12ft duck boat.

I used PVC pipe for the frame with milsurp camo netting. It's fairly light in weight, doesn't hold water when it's pouring rain, dries easily by hanging it up in the garage and very easy to handle. It's sure nothing fancy, but,it works great.

its a tiller and yes, 2070 extremely stable. it has 1 storage locker that you can fit tons of stuff into, about 6 feet long and 14 inch wide, lockable too.

i have a 16ft polarkraft jon boat i built a blind the it takes 5 minutes to install it and 10 seconds to put it up its built out of 1/2 conduit with boat bimni hardware and draped with waterproof painters tarps and draped over that with army net with grass weaved through last all duck season and i hunt ducks every weekend then at the end of the season it takes 20 minutes to get rid of the grass take blind of in 5 minutes hang blind in shed awesome blind .if i wanna move to another spot blind falls down in 3 seconds pick decoys up and gone .
