I'm primarily a hunter so terminal performance is equally as important as accuracy when selecting a bullet. With traditional bullet design the flatbase bullets seemed to hold together better and were therefore a better choice and just as accurate in a hunting rifle. In my target rifles I usually shoot 168 or 175 grain Sierra bthp bullets. They work well out to 600 meters (as far as I shot them). I think that a well made bullet can be a variety of profiles with quality being the main criteria for accuracy. Boat tails are an aerodynamic aid at longer distances and hence their use there over a flat base style. "Best" is always a compromise.
