Or does it need to be cased while in transport on the boat

Ontario btw and during legal hunting time I should add

It doesn’t need to be in a case whether it’s a car, boat, or plane. Or locked. Just has to be unloaded.

(While you’re present)

As far as I understand it, no sometimes about it. If your in the vehicle it does not need to be cased. Just unloaded.

Thanks Jack. I figured the same rule as it is for in the truck. Buddy said he was told from his firearms instructor differently

this is in the ontario hunting regs:

If you are in
an area usually inhabited by wildlife during
the period from half an hour after sunset to
half an hour before sunrise you must unload
and encase any firearms in your possession.
To be considered encased, firearms must be
enclosed on all six sides.

Ray stated during daylight hours. I reckon he’s aware of the after-dark requirement to case it up.

so it is federal, but what local or provincial regulations?

Firearms (and boats for that matter) fall under federal jurisdiction. There are no provincial or municipal regulations that state a firearm must be encased while being transported during daylight hours.

Ontario, during daylight hours, does not need to be encased in boat.

Cannot shoot migratory birds from a boat under motor power, engine must be turned off and forward momentum stopped.

There is usually an "unwritten" exception if trying to kill a wounded bird.

Something new here in Quebec now your crossbow must be unloaded/uncocked when being transported on any motorized vehicle just like a fire arm . I don't know about other provinces but evidently it's a new reg this fall for this province.

You need a license for a crossbow? Good luck informing crossbowmen of the regs without a course.

After 20 yrs. of teaching the Hunter Ed. in Ontario , the above is true. "Daytime , while you are with it = no case needed."

Gotta love some guys that say you have to have the motor tilted all the way up out the water and/or have to have an anchor down haha
