So NOW we are into Scotland! 
Interesting that I read a little while back (and sorry I can't remember the authors name) that Canada is "Scotlands revenge on England". LOL!
I was a Cameron Highlander (Reserve regiment) in the early '80s, saluted a portrait of old Queeny when entering the wet mess, started me thinking at that time, WHY are we clinging to an old colonial system...? I am a Canadian, not a Brit!
The English history is one of... subjecating peoples, colonializing peoples, disarming peoples... they have given that all up except for the LAST item... disarmed their own.
Sure, they did do good. But they also did bad.
As a middle aged Canadian whose ancestors came from Wales originally, I have a lot of trouble understanding the British empire mindset.
WHY do we retain a Govenor General (who has become nothing more than a "mouthpiece" of the current gov't) and all this other BS?
Here's to a Canadian REPUBLIC! And a REAL Bill of rights and freedoms, which includes the right to private property!

And I hear that the republic idea (voted on by the citizens) was narrowly defeated primarily because it was setup very shoddy, ie. not REALLY a republic but a half-arsed one. So sez a buddy of mine in Canberra.
