Boer War Captured Mauser

The rottenest thing in the history of the British Empire was the Boer war.
They basically waged war with peaceful farmers on account of minerals beneath their soil.
They couldn't beat the farmers so they put their women and children in concentration camps and starved them to death until the Boer men surrendered.
Interestingly enough Canada sent 200 *NWMP to aid the British (*Now called the RCMP) and they had a lot to do with the collection of women and children for internment.

It looks like the British "Sold Out of Service" marking ...

Although I haven't had a chance to create a formal Knowledge Library entry for it, here's a piece from my collection …

1896 Boer Mauser Rifle Serial # B7772 (click here)http://imageevent.com/badgerdog/germanservicerifles/1896boermauserrifleserialb7772

"One of the first 20,000 rifles delivered in 1896 to Z.A.R.
Serial number ranges were A1 - A10000 & B1 - B10000"

"All matching numbers except cleaning rod and un-numbered bolt"
"Vet bring back and was originally part of CMI collection"

Interesting! I believe that there are still Salmons around Moosomin.

I had an old uncle that sailed off to South Africa to fight in the Boer War. I downloaded his sign-up papers from the Boer War and the Great War. He was a tough old bird. He was our town cop when he was in his 70's.
