I'm fairly new to guns and I'm excited to start learning more. I'd really like to start with a .22 but I'm not 100% sure what the difference between many of them is. The two that have really caught my eye are the Savage mkII BVSS or the CZ 455 varmint. Anything else I should be looking at that might be better for target shooting?

Either rifle will serve you well for many years to come. The CZ may offer a slight edge on accuracy.

Good luck and welcome to GunNutz.

yea CZ will have slightly better accuracy out of the box and has a higher potential for drop in upgrades for down the road. the savages are usually a little less expensive than the CZ and i LOVE their trigger. IMO the savage trigger is better than the CZ out of the box. however, a CZ trigger upgrade is damn cheap and easy to install.

personally i am about to start a CZ build. going to get a 455 varmint evolution, do a trigger upgrade, pop in a lilja drop in barrel, and get some bedding done.

If you are just starting out begin with a cz with iron sights and get to know your gun. Then if you take a liking to it you can scope it or move up top a second gun such as a varmint which requires a scope as there are no sights and then have two to choose from in your safe. :)

i would really agree with the 2nd gun option. nothing is as fun as iron sights for me. I love precision with my scope but if i want to have a blast i go with iron sights.

If you want cheap get the savage if you want something of beauty and that will last forever get the cz. If you can't afford a cz right now save longer. I had like 8 savage rimfires sold them all and have 2 cz's could not me more happy. Fit, finish, beauty, and quality are way better on the cz's. Plus hearing comments of how nice they are never gets old. Never got one comment when I was shooting savages. Now people spark up conversations at random.

Both choices are great for different reasons. If you can try them both, by all means do so. You will know what's most important to you (feel, looks, cost, etc)

(flame suit on)

Go to YouTube and look for "nutnfancy" reviews on the Savage mark II and CZ452 (covers the 455 too). Also find his review on the Marlin. Love him or hate him, this guy does VERY thorough longterm high quality video reviews of all kinds of guns. I figure his opinion is at least worth hearing because he shoots so many different guns.

i love TNP. you may not agree with everything he says but he gives you all of his reasoning. also, unlike a lot of reviewers he doesnt claim to be the best or always be right. he is upfront that everything he states is his opinion only which he has formed through exhaustive personal testing.

Savages 22s are made in Canada.... They work really well, and they can be modified to shoot even better than stock.Yes the CZ are nice and accurate and pretty, but I really like my Savage, and the fact that it's made in Canada is a plus.

The savage will never hold it's value like any CZ!! Savage makes an accurate disposable gun!! That's why CGN is saturated with savage of all kinds. Like most things in life, You Get what you Pay for!!!
