bolt action 12ga (mauser 98)

The swivel eye "out front" is not a bad idea, I did that one my Ruger#1 in .300 Wthby after it bit me. Any stock, military / otherwise, for a standard lenght 98 Mauser can be used to restock albeit with some inletting for the cartridge release for inside the mag. well. I need one for one of mine too, it looks like it was used to hold down a barb wire fence more than once. Two of mine are apart right now but I do not see that mark anywhere. I was informed some time ago that the Spandau mark was an eagle with wings folded down. --- John303.

You can use another Mauser 98 style stock but you will have to perform some bedding and modifications to the internal wood layout so the Geha action will sit properly.

John, you are right, Spandau's Prussian property mark is the eagle though you will find variations of the design of the eagle on other state and private made rifles (Danzig for instance has a completely different style of the eagle but DWM, Oberndorf and Erfurt used the same style eagle as Spandau). Since the markings on the Geha were polished off, it is hard to say what arsenal made what rifle.

Here is a shot of the Spandau "chicken":

It could be your shotgun was an example whose receiver was made at Spandau instead of being sub contracted or perhaps your former rifle was made by another arsenal. It is impossible to say which after almost a century.

It does seem common to see the late pattern Gewehr 98s being used for Gehas (former take down discs on either side and finger grasping grooves), all with a walnut stock. One thing that makes me wonder is if the serial number on my Geha, for instance, is the original serial number of the rifle that was simply re-used or if it is the serial number alloted to the conversion.

so ive picked up 98 rifle stock started refinishing it. fighting with the cross bolt (i hope thats actually what its called lol) the geha's has been ground for clearance so im going to swap them instead of grinding the perfectly good 98 one. i dont know your name on here but thanks for the tip about the iron and damp rag worked pretty good. you know who you are :p. ill post pics as soon as i figure out how to hook my phone up to the comp. btw you could just see that "chicken" on the stock cant really see it now after removing the finish though
