Bolt action 7.62x39

I was buying the norinco redbox when it was on sale at cabelas. Just to store away. Only been using Chinese surplus ammunition so far with no real issues. The odd light strike but caulk it then fires second go.

Savage axis. I’ve removed the split ring between the 2 springs in the bolt and replaced with a marginally thicker washer. Yet to try it after doing this. But looked like the spring was compressing into the split washer shortening the overall length and adding resistance if that makes any sense.

May try some of the Redbox next and if it’s as bad as it sounds I’ll rip through it first or feed it to the sks

thanks for the clarification. I think I would stick to the mil surplus ammo for the Ranch.

Correct.

With the CZ600, the Trigger setup is mint. Little dial with I think 4 settings. Almost prefer it over the set trigger.

In the end it is CZ for life LOL. Just stock up on mags when you can find them.

What is available at a place like Cabelas for ammo in 762x39? Besides the milsurp in the spam cans. I saw the red box Norinco, something from Federal and something from Herters, anything else that is usually stocked?

Not sure about cabalas however lots of time I see S&B 7.62x39 available at Canadian Tire.

I haven't run any surplus through my 527 yet, have corrosive Russian and Romanian here I blast though the SKS, plus maybe a few hundred rounds Barnaul non-corrosive.
Hand loads through it are silly accurate with old WC735 surplus powder from Higginson though, which is good because I never found it to be a great powder in any other cartridge except 30-30.
I'll run some surplus through it this weekend maybe for ####s and giggles, just to see how accurate it is.

I agree, no one buys a 7.62x39 firearm to shoot anything but cheap surplus.
You would have been better off with literally any other caliber (.308 win. If you're stuck on 30cal)
you're currently paying way too much to shoot a 7.62x39 rifle, I don't imagine reloads are cheaper then surplus

The ballistics of a 3030 and a 762x39 are very similar. So your statement makes sense in that affect. But reloading for 762x39 is like wanting to reload 22lr imo

Lol, the surplus WC735 was $7/lb.
100 Hornady 123gr SP are $30.
Brass is dirt cheap too and lasts forever with 40k psi cartridge like this.
My hand loads are probably cheaper then surplus ammo prices today, they are MOA accurate, non corrosive, and I can actually shoot animals with it, it isn't a long range cartridge but it is quite effective on game up to deer to 200m, punches above its expectations.

Surplus is for garbage rods (SKS), why by a bolt gun to shoot inaccurate surplus? Buy some fireworks of you want to make noise, way cheaper lol.

It is what it is with surplus, some lots are accurate, some are not as much, but they all go bang for cheap 60 years after they were made lol.
I bought a whack of Hirtenberger 308 when it was around, had a reputation for being very accurate surplus, the lot I got was not so much.
I could roll a round on a flat table and watch the bullet tip wobble, crazy run out on this stuff.
Fired it through my target rifles and it was shotgun patterns. At least it was boxer primed and it's good brass for reloading lol.
 
Surplus is 30 cents a round give or take.
Projectiles alone. 30 cents. I got better #### to do with my time then reload. Especially 762x39
Then add all the supplies. Powder.
Primers. Are 20 cents a round now.
So please tell me how it’s cheeper then surplus. We’re at 50 cents without brass or powder. We can assume brass is zero dollars since it’s reusable.
If I were to reload precision ammo. It would not be 762x39 not by a long shot

I have reloaded before so don’t say I don’t know what it’s about.

I understand the “hobby” thing. But from what I’m seeing it’s marginally cheeper
After you maybe ROI your equipment

The only reason it would be worth reloading nowadays is precision ammo.
And like I said. Not 762x39

Primers I have were canam, bought lots, sorry, I should have had that in there, they were $25/1000 for the Russian Muron.
$30/ 100 bullets
$7/ 1lb wc735
Brass I already had.

Today's prices other then the bullets are quite a bit more, so is the surplus, stuff I bought was $200/1100 rounds several years ago, I think it's nearly double that now.
