Guys,

I do almost all of my shooting off-range - I have access to a big parcel of farmland, which is also where I do gopher control.

Since I'm usually shooting from the grassy ground or the roof of my truck, I tend to lose brass easily. I find it annoying to have to reach under the action to the ejection port to catch the brass with my off-hand every time I cycle the action. It makes followup shots on gophers a little tougher. :)

My question - is there a commercially available or homemade 'brass catcher' than can be used? I'm thinking about making one with some coathanger wire and pantyhose, but I'd like to know if a better setup exists.

I did a search on here, and came up with nothing of use. Even google couldn't find what I'm looking for. Does it exist?

To complicate it further, I shoot LH actions, so finding something commercial might not be possible.

Any ideas/plans for a home brew setup?

If you're using a remington, take the bolt apart and remove the ejector spring. I can't stand ejectors and I always remove them so the brass stays nicely in the breech where you can remove it without having to catch it.

Well, one is a Rem (but mainly use my Tikka), but I need to shoot quickly... so no ejector kinda defeats that purpose. :)

I really can't believe no one makes these commercially. Seems like a no-brainer to me... who wants to chase down brass if they don't have to?

I remove the ejector from most rifles. But for situations like yours, I drap a smal towel over the scope so it hangs down both sides of the rifle. The ejected round hits the towel and falls straight down, under the rifle. On the roof of a truck, they would still roll off.

I had thought of making one with an aquarium fish net for my 10/22 to keep brass off the dash. I'm not sure if the net material could withstand the heat or not.

Yeah, I've been thinking about something like that myself. Especially for gophers, when a guy is going through lots of ammo. I'm sure the landowner would appreciate seeing a brass catcher on the rifle.

Let us know what you come up with

Dollar stores usually have various size bags made of a net for storage, washing clothes, etc. ... they work just fine combined with some heavy wire.
Improvise! :)
