Bolt action/break action .22mag question

Is it possible and SAFE to shoot a .22LR round out of a .22mag rifle? This obv wouldn't work with a .22mag semi gun but if you were to load one round of .22LR round into a bolt ation gun right into the barrel or the same thing with a break action rifle would this work and also be safe?

Is it significant? After all, a Ruger Single Six can fire .22LR and .22 WMR through the same barrel, albeit through different exchangable cylinders (always wanted one).

also the rim diameters and thickness is different. don't think you can close the bolt on a 22 l/r in a 22 mag?????

It works just fine most of the time.
The case of the LR will bulge and occasionally split; but the bullet comes out the muzzle just like it supposed to.

Thats true. I guess it cant be too much of a difference then. I recall hearing something about bullet diameter difference a while ago on this forum however.

Actually the bullet is slightly different in size too. But the soft lead of the .22LR will upset enough.
