I wanted to dry-fire my Savage MkII to help the break-in period along (DON'T dry fire one without a dry-fire device of some kind!!). I tried several different things (O-rings, used casings, etc.), but nothing was working very well. I finally came across something that works - perfectly. I can dry fire to my heart's content, in the sure and certain knowledge that I'm not harming anything. It's so simple (or maybe, I am...) that I don't know why I didn't think of it before.

Here's a pic - it's a 3 mm thick slice off an old (and, in this case, green) garden hose, cut at one spot so I can slip it on without stretching it over the end of the bolt. It was trial and error to get the thickness - 2 mm, and the firing pin touches the chamber. You can use a thicker piece (I started with 5 mm), but then the bolt hardly moves at all. Anyway, I had an old piece of garden hose a few feet long, so now I have enough to make about 3,847 more of these:D

Removal is easy, if you open the bolt all the way. Or, you could put a narrow strip of duct tape around it to make a grab-tab.

Just thought I'd pass it on - seems like several CGN'ers have bought Savages recently.
