bolt action mags in a m14

i thought the charlton used a bren mag?

It used an extensively modified Bren magazine. Once converted to be used in the Charlton, it would never again be usable in a Bren.
The Charlton conversion of Magazine Lee Enfield (Long Lee Enfield) rifles in New Zealand was not the only auto conversion of a Lee Enfield. It was the only one made in quantity, though. Australia did a SMLE conversion based on the Charlton system, and there were other unrelated experimentals.

The Lee Enfield doesn't even need to be exempted. It is a BOLT ACTION, the M1 Garand is a Semi Auto using en bloc clips that are specifically exempted.

I know, but it is stated in the law. Right along side the M1. Thats why I called it a redundant addition, but its in there, giving the shoe-in for these AIA mags. The government granted you the legal right to put a high capacity magazine in your M14. Finally, one of their MANY f**k ups works in our favour.

Just to clarify, AIA's are not Enfields, so any specifically named Enfield exception has no bearing on the AIA rifles.

They are allowed magazines over 5 rounds simply by the virtue of being a bolt action.

Well, given the penchant for classifying one firearm as being a "variant" of another, it is entirely possible that the AIA could be deemed to be a variant of the Lee Enfield.....
And if the AIA is deemed to be a Lee Enfield variant then the Lee Enfield magazine regulation would kick in. And you should read this very, very carefully.
It the AIA is not deemed to be a variant of the Lee Enfield, then the just another manually operated firearm's magazine situation should apply.
There is certainly a market for extra AIA magazines, for use in the AIA rifles. A 20 rounder is a bit silly in a bolt action rifle - was tried 95 years ago and was rejected. The obvious market for these is for use in the M-14 rifle.
As noted above, the AIA made 10 rounders do work in some M-14s. Have any of these new, non-AIA made 20 roundmagazines been tested in a number of M-14s? Have any been tested in AIAs? Bit of a pig in a poke, so far? In any auto firearm, the magazine is a critical component. Note that the distributor will warrant that these magazines will work in the AIA, but will not guarantee their functionning in a M-14.

I think 20 rounders are a great idea in a bolt action. How many of us only go out with 5 rounds in our mag and no more. Most hunters/shooters will carry extra mags or at least extra rounds with them. The high capacity magazine allows me to not to reload and always be ready for the next shot.
