I have a bolt action 410 shotgun with the externally threaded chokes. I want to be able to get a few doves with it this year, does anyone see a problem with shooting #7 steel through it? I have the modified choke or can shoot it open choke as well.

I know it is not new but the technology on wads now removes a lot of that issue with rubbing the pellets on the bore.

The main concern with steel now is velocity. The speed the steel pellets hit the choke creates more issues than bore scrubbing. What are the details of your load? Having said that steel #7 will not harm your gun. They have good flow characteristics.

This looks like the load, I swear it is 3" though, never saw a 2 3/4in 410 load, only 2 1/2in and 3in.

1400 fps, it is actually #6, not #7.

I thought it would be fine with the modified being such small pellets.
