Hi there,

Wasn't sure what forum to ask this in, but I've been digging around to find out what options there are bolt action, iron sight rifles in 7.62x39mm.

I've only managed to come up with 2 options so far. The CZ 527 Carbine and the Savage 10 FCM Scout. I know Ruger makes a M77 compact in it, but it has no iron sights on it. Are you guys aware of any other options or do you have any opinions on those 2 rifles? I'm basically looking for a quality centerfire iron sight plinker that won't break my wallet to feed. Any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks!

Norinco bush ranger if you can find one
one more that i cant think of right now.

they are deffanatly out there though, i want a bush ranger one day haha

Thanks guys, my gut says to go with the CZ 527 Carbine. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing another really good option.

Now, to convince the wife... ;)

If you like Rugers, it is very simple to have irons add, just buy a NECG rear peep, or order a Ruger Scout peep and have a gunsmith put an appropriate front ramp on, only ussually 2 screws, $30 a hole, so for an extra $200 or less you have a peep sighted Ruger, but the CZ Carbine is a fayvorite of mine, deadly accurate and god looking mauser design! Dale Z!

My GF has a 527 bolt action. I can put three rounds of factory ammo through a dime at 100 yards. You get what you pay for.

Cannot do / use better than a good pre-98 Mauser action. Easy cheap to buy, to work on, with very little alteration, you can even get a .308 bore barrel....

I built this one. Rifle Swede 96 from TradeEx, $160, stock $40 and Rem 700 .308 barrel $100 from the Exchange here. Solid performer and accurate.

I have the CZ version and have done some loads for it with 124gr sp bullets and Re7 powder and at 100 yards this load will put 4 into the size of a 25 cent piece. The single set trigger is another nice option few other rifles have. My only complaint is it is short for me , but at 6' 5" most all guns require a slip on Limbsaver for comfortable use. Mine came with a fantastic piece of walnut. FS

I built one out of a Stevens 200 action and a 30-06 barrel from a winchester model 70 that I had set-back, re-chambered, and re-threaded.

Doesn't feed from a magazine or eject brass, but as a single-shot it's wicked accurate. Both the feeding and ejecting could be fixed fairly easily, if I really cared. (I think I could swap in the mag box from a .223 to fix the feeding, and obtain a PPC bolt head or have a .223 bolt head opened up to fix the ejection)

I shoot 150grain Sierra, .308 diameter bullets from my Ruger M77 Hawkeye 7.62X39.
The rifle maintains MOA accuracy, and a decent SD (8-10fps).

I dont even consider the .311 diameter bullets.
No point, when the .308's shoot that well.

Savage makes a model 11 FCNS in 7.62x39. They don't list it on their website, but it's in their 2011 product catalogue.

Ruger, Norinco, and CZ also make bolt action 7.62x39's, but there may be others.

Reving an old thread:

I am looking at the Ruger Gun Site Scout for .308, but I am also looking for a "scout" type in 7.62x39...

Are there any new options out there? I am NOT looking to start a debate about the accuracy of 7.62 ammo, but ONLY for ideas for a scout, rugged type rifle.

Thanks...
