Hello CGN,

Firstly, I would like to ask what models of non-restricted .50 Cal rifles are availiable in Canada? There was once a gentleman selling a pair of them at the Orangeville Gunshow for I believe just under 2,500 a piece. I do not know what the make or model was. What is availiable?

Thanks,

The list of non-restricted 50 cals keeps getting longer and longer. Heres a couple, but others will chime in with plenty more. I would be very surprised if someone was selling 50 cal BMG rifles for $2500 each. More likely they may have been 14.5mm PTRDs or the semi auto cousin the PTRS. Ammo is a bit tough to find for those.

Here are a couple non-restricted 50s to get the list started:
The Steyr 50 cal bolt action
The Boys rifle (originally 55 cal, but often converted to 50 BMG)
ATR 50 cals (custom)
PGW 50 cals (custom)

I have seen them recently at Epps in Orillia, and Accuracy Plus in Peterborough. Steyrs. Give them a call. Plus 'scope, ammunition, components, loading tools, etc. Think in terms of the cost of a decent used car.
Where are you planning to shoot it?

Probably any dealer can get you a Steyr-HS-50. Ellwood Epps handles Steyr, though I bought mine from Del Selins. I think Wolverine had Hagelberg kits you had to assemble yourself. I like my Steyr, but I haven't shot it enough to really know what's best. ATRS supposedly makes great rifles but I haven't shot one. I was going to buy one of their 50's, but I got a great deal on my steyr, so I bought it instead.

How good was your deal in Canadian Loonies if you don't mind me asking? I will contact Epps about it, for the full package, I'd be looking at about what, 7,500 dollars?

There is also that swiss .50cal rifle from Alberta tactical rifle supply. Looks like a beast.

well if price is no object ....take a look at ACCURACY INTERNATIONAL....wolverine supplies is the AI dealer wonderful people to deal and do business with....I just love my AW-50

I offer this post in envy, I am always surprised at how many of you are shooting .50's. I would love one someday but my old lady would cut my jacobs off. I'd settle for a chance to shoot one someday. Good on you guys.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: WHEN IS THE NEXT ORANGEVILLE SHOW!!!!!

They were most likely the Hagelberg .50's as the next cheapest I have seen in Canada is the Styer, and it tends to run about $5000.00.

Did they have optics mounted or were they naked?

They were naked if I remember correctly. The next show is either March or April, first sunday of the month. Still, I would not expect someone to walk in there with 5 grand in cash. Perhaps some *ahem* retired old soldiers happen to have that kind of spending money, but not I, the poor student. So I shall stick with my "under $1000" for some time.

I can vouch for the Steyr HS50. In this price range theres not many others to choose from. ATRS offers one in a McMillian Stock, which has the typical hunting rifle look. The HS50 has more of a tactical look, and can be fully dis-assembled for transport. The HS50 is a solid, well built rifle. With proper optics and match ammo, it has the potential to be a very accurate precision rifle.
