There was a thread not too long ago asking about a bolt action 9mm pcc.

Came across a discussion in the US about making a 9mm pcc starting with the action from one of the Remington 5mm rimfire rifles. Apparently converting the bolt to centerfire is not a problem. The firing pin is a flat unit operating in a slot. Deepen the slot to get to the center, and make a new firing pin.
The locking system uses multiple lugs, so there are no worries about action strength with 9x19. Action is like a scaled down 788.
The action is proportioned nicely for the 9mm; not a sledgehammer driving a tack situation like the SMLE conversions.

Something to think about.

I'd just be happy with a modern production bolt action PCC. While the pew-pew factor is fun, theres still nothing like operating a good ol' bolt gun.

(Bonus points if it happens to use 7.62x25 with stripper clip compatibility, but I'd be dreaming.)

@tiriaq: What would you use for a magazine? I see that there were models with both a tube and detachable mags but I think neither will accommodate 9mm as is... Do you have one handy to check what magazine it could be converted to?

No, I don't have one at hand. I would assume that adapting a readily available single column pistol magazine would be the way to go.
These 5mm rifles turn up from time to time. The ammunition shortage has rendered them pretty much useless as shooters.

I still have a 9mm Spanish Police (Destroyer) Carbine . Chambered in 9mm Largo . I found the Largo brass a little short and found a supply of 9mm Win Mag which I shortened to .910 (if my memory is serving me well today) Used to shoot it a quite often with cast bullets. It was capable of excellent plinking accuracy. Low recoil, not loud and economical to shoot. A fun little bolt action carbine. Well made as well (at least in my opinion). I understand that it is possible to remove the barrel and shorten by one turn and chamber to 9mm Luger. Would solve the ammo production issue. I would keep the pressures down if I went that route.
Maybe time to treat mine to a trip to the range.

This is what I am after. Stainless that shoots cheap surplus 7.62x25.

I altered a couple to 9x19, setting the barrel back a turn and reaming the chamber. That part worked fine. The magazines didn't like 9x19 as well as Largo, and worked best with 5 rounds.

I have a lovely little Destroyer Carbine and I just left the chamber alone on this one. It handles the original round just fine, along with 9x21 and 9x19. I've even loaded up some 380acp with 115 grain bullets to see how well they worked. Not a hiccup with any of them, even when mixed in a magazine.

Tradex used to sell spare surplus mags very cheap. I haven't looked in a while, but picked up a half dozen spares about ten years ago.

I did find that heavier bullets in the commercial 9x19 were often seated out to far to properly feed or to even fit into the issue mags.

Destroyers are stronger than most folks give them credit for. Frank DeHawes really liked them.

It's to bad Mr Ackley didn't get around to them before he passed on.

I look at the Destroyer Carbines in the same light as the great Astra 400 pistols that were used by the Spanish police and were chambered for several different 9mm cartridges, including the 9x19 and the 9x23. If you had one in 9x23 which can be a very difficult round to find, you fed it 9x19 surplus ammo without worrying about it.

Yes, I realize the extractor is holding the base of the cartridge back against the face of the slide/bolt and that may eventually lead to problems. My rifle has more rounds through it than I can keep track of and the extractor looks and functions fine.

Folks needing brass for their Destroyer carbines can get both Largo and 9x23 Starline from Rusty Wood. I used the Largo cases in my one and
they held up fine after many reloadings. The 9x23 case dimensions allow for interchanging with the Largo brass for reloading, but being thicker
in the web area, the 9x23 has reduced case capacity. Work up warm loads carefully when loading 158 gr hardcast boolits.
