Bolt Action Pistols

So, I got myself a bolt action airgun pistol, and I'm loving it!
While I was plinking this afternoon I thought to myself, "this would be awesome as a real handgun!"

So after doing some research, I've found this.

Bolt action pistols tend to be a rarity- especially on this side of the border, since we can't hunt with them.
However being a rarity, H-S Precision, Remington, Savage and Weatherby are actively manufacturing bolt actions pistols.

Anybody ever seen one? Anybody own one? Any way of getting one of these here in Canada, without it costing two arms, a kidney and a potato?

Correction: The Remington XP100 is out of production...

Had a Contender and loved it. Super 14 barrel in .30-30, 10" barrel in .444 Marlin (that one kicked some), and a 10" with a .22 Match chamber.
 
I'm on my third Contender, and have two XP100's. One I rebuilt as a rifle, and the other is destined for the same fate. The solid bottom receiver helps with accuracy. I have three bolts for the latest one, in different case head sizes for easy caliber /barrel changes. If we could still handgun hunt in Canada I would likely have left well enough alone, they are extremely accurate pistols. - dan
 
None of these options are ever cheap. There's a Contender with two barrels and set up with a scope in the used section of my LGS and the tag on it is around $1000. One barrel was .44Mag and I don't recall the other.

The odd time I've seen the bolt action pistols come up for sale the were up around $700 on their own and $1K if set up with a scope.

Sadly there's no provision for producing one from a rifle. Both the actions of shortening the barrel to a pistol suitable length and the cutting down/replacing the stock which shortens the gun to below 26 inches OAL are prohibited acts. So that leaves us with the ones which are already incountry and classified as restricteds.

So what you need to do is be patient. They are out there and you'll find one when the time comes. In the meantime you'll want to save up to around $1K to be ready to jump when the time is right.

Not even a 'smith can cut down a barrel, and have it registered as a restricted?
 
I picked up one a few years ago, as a bit of a novelty more than anything. A Remington XP-100 in 221 Fireball. The original soft zipper case came with it.

Accuracy with it is pretty decent and I'd love to use it to thin out Gopher populations in Alberta.

i purchased a few handguns a few weeks ago a fellow was wanting to get rid of them, one of them was a xp100 .221 fireball since i am new to handguns, i was wondering how rare these are, it is in great shape and has the original bag and owners manual

In my 4 years of going to gun swaps in this area I've only seen about 3 to 5 bolt action handguns of all makes. And during the same time around a dozen TC Contenders for sale and another 3 or 4 actually being enjoyed at the range.

It's not something you see every day but there are a few around. I picked up one with the soft zipper case a few years ago and they are a fun item to shoot. Too bad we couldn't use them on gopher shoots in the prairies.

I have a fondness for my Wichita bolt action target rifle.
If we could handgun hunt up here, I strongly suspect a Wichita bolt action pistol would be a purchase for myself.
Fired the T/C Contender at Calgary Shooting Centre this early fall past & that is one nice piece too.
