Ruger just announced that they are chambering the 7.62X39 cartridge in their Ruger American Rifle!

Savage has begun producing their fine Axis rifle in 7.62X39.

The Chi-coms are producing their M14 clone aka the M305 in 7.62X39. Howa make a bolt action rifle in this caliber too, as does the CZ company. Wow right?

I continue to be disappointed that the lever-action rifle makers continue ignore the 7.62X39 cartridge in favour of the hopelessly obsolete and underpowered 30-30. Awful!

FMJ 7.62x39 in a lever action might lead to some nasty magazine chain-fire situations--the Lebel rifle excepted, its generally considered a bad idea to put spitzer projectiles in tube-fed lever actions.

It's a great little round in a bolt rifle. Low recoil, deer huntable, lots of cheap ammo and some good quality stuff as well. I have a CZ 527 in which it is super accurate and handy. And a mini 30 which is a riot to shoot.

300 Blackout makes more sense considering the only selling point of the x39 cartridge is cheap surplus FMG ammo.
Soft point 300 and 7.62x39 are the same price.

Always wanted a mini 30 and they've been around for a while... That new american sure does look fun though and its interesting that they use the same mags as the mini 30.

I've shot a couple of deer with a 30-30 with mixed results. It definitely works, but I'd take my 243 instead. I'm not sure if I'd hunt deer with a 7.62 by 39. Maybe one just to say I did with that rifle because it seems to be the way that you need to get a deer with a new rifle.

Keeping buying new rifles to how many Deer tags you can buy a year seems to be a decent way of throttling it down to an acceptable level. But if I go by those rules I'll have to get one with a 54 caliber percussion black powder rifle that I picked up a couple of days ago. Dammit... think I like my 6.5x55.

I have been looking at the howa x39 and I agree the only reason to get x39 is for the cheap ammo but it looks like the eastern block are starting to move away to calibers other then x39 so at some point the cheap surplus will start to dry up and get more expensive. It will be quite some time for that to happen for sure but it will happen eventually.
