Who out there is a proud owner of a bolt action shotgun?

I have a Mossberg Model 190 (16 ga.) With a 2 round detachable box mag and a C-Lect Choke (poly choke) and I love it. I have the original tag/pamphlet that came on it from he factory.

The action is smooth, ejects/loads positively, nice balance, and handles well.

Are there any company's out there today that make a bolt shot gun? Why are they so unpopular?

I handled a few of the old Mossberg bolt shotguns over the years, but never got around to buying one.

The C-lect choke IMHO was a great invention, and the whole design lived up to Mossbergs slogan of those days ie..."more gun for the money."

Here is a site for you with more info. :)

If I could ever get a c-lect choke installed on my HP9, I'd be a happy camper.

I've just 'acquired' one, although only on a temporary basis until a famly member gets his PAL. He wanted me to take it and register it prior to the end of the amnesty period. I've never seen another bolt action like it and made mention of it on another thread in shotguns. Turns out it's a Stevens model 124B. It a straight pull and 'looks' like a semi auto but the you pull out the bolt handle, slide the action/bolt back, ejecting the spent shell. Then push the bolt handle forward chambering the next shell, and push the bolt handle in toward and into the left side of the receiver. It is a strange set up and seems to function OK. Still, it looks like a semi auto that has mated with a bolt action and the plastic stock looks like it had also been messin' around on the side with my Remington XP-100. Going by the registry info, they were manufactured between 1947 - 1952. If nothing else, they are a good conversation topic.

...Why are they so unpopular?

My guess would be because they are not as quick as a semi or pump.

Wingshooters and claybusters don't want to be cranking a bolt between shots, and while it is possible to become proficient enough to do that quickly while holding on target, it simply is not as easy/natural as pumping, or simply pulling the trigger again. Even break-open sxs or o/u shotguns allow for a quick followup shot.

Single shot break-opens are very inexpensive, hence their popularity.

Calum, I bet if you talked to a very large gun shops/smith you could find one or more that have been wacked off old Mossys as barrels gey shorten up
they would have to be milled out to fit your barrel and silver soldered in.
I don't think standard solder would stand up. I have see these shot guns in
poor comdition sell for $50-60 at shows out in the plains

I've used a friend's 12ga Mossberg C-Lect choke 2 shot clip worked good but not my choice for a upland gun just because I don't like bolt action shotgun's because it's not worth the extra weight for the speed of the bolt I can reload my single's as fast as he can the bolt.
