Just got back from the range shooting with my new Marlin 795, great gun (except the mag). However, I found myself much enjoy shooting the Savage arm Mk2f, even they are both iron sights and the Marlin is easier to aim.

I always thought my next rifle purchase is either SKS or 858. Now, it got me thinking, maybe my heart is on bolt action gun instead, esp with the 5 rds limit...

So beside Mosin Nagant, what other choice do I have?

No hunting is planned, iron-sight only is ok, 100-300 yards range, will happy with 3-4 moa (I think), surplus ammo, cool looking.

Thanks.

There is some others milsurp Bolt Action out there.

Trade-ex have nice VZ-24 in 8mm Mauser and i also see Lee-enfield No4 Mk1.
Both are fun too shot, not that expensive and well in the range of 100-300 yds.

The ammo will be the concern !

If you want cheep " reliable" ammo, the only way i will go it's with the
Mosin-Nagant.

Beside the 100 to 125 $ 91/30 found at many dealers, there is also some nice Finn Nagant still on the market. If you have a little spare money, i think it's a great choice.

Shoot very well ( if in good condition) , cheep ammo and awsome looking.

Surplus bolt actions

Trade Ex also has some Swiss K-31 straight pull rifles and some m96 Swedish Mauser rifles. The Swedes tend to be quite an accurate rifle, with moderate recoil. Some of the Swedish FSR target rifles have diopter sights on them and cost a bit more. A Swedish CG-63 is in the $500+ range.

Lee Enfields, either the Number 1 Mark III and the Number 4 Mark I rifles are available, and are frequently advertised in the EE. The Number 5 rifle (Jungle Carbine) runs a bit more money, is not quite as accurate, and recoils more.

Springfield and Mauser rifles tend to get a bit more expensive.

Sporterized Enfield P-14 and M-17 rifles generally run under $200 in the EE.
