is there a bolt action rifle out there that takes m14 mags? i was planning on getting a savage 10fcp-sr but if i could find a rifle that takes m14 mags that would be awesome, cause i plan to get a m14 one day and if i could use the same mags in both rifles that would be cool....

AIA's version of the Lee Enfield in 308 is about it. Good luck finding one as the company is out of business. A search should reveal a ton of threads relating the AIA 308 mags and the reason they are so cool.

theres a board member here that made or modified ( i cant remember which ) a bottom metal set for the Rem 700 to take M14 mags. but it was a one off

im sure that with some minor modification a CDI or Badger bottom metal could be made to take M14 mags

Well,

If you have deep pockets and the ability to be very persistent in your search - the Parker Hale M85 will fit your needs very nicely.

It was designed to use M14 mags. There are at least a couple of them that made there way to north america(Canada included), but you'd probably have a very hard time convincing the current owners to sell them.

I'd love to own one myself, as they are fabulous rifles - I've actually had the pleasure of shooting an M82, C3, M84, M85, M86 and of course the M87 our little version called the C3A1 - Used to repair the darn things for 14 years - Sheesh getting old stinks!.

Good luck in your search though.

Cheers,Carl

I was the 2nd owner of that bottom metal - sold it more than a few years ago - it worked - just didn't really fit into my plans after I had it a while.

I thought it was a neat idea at the time - it was enclosed in an MacMillan A2 stock, on an remington VSSF .308 - I still have the stock in the parts bin!

The bottom metal was definitely a one off - hand made and fitted to work with M14 mags. So it is possible to make it - just takes some fiddling.

Cheers, Carl

In the US, there were conversions of bolt action rifles to use M-14 and M-16 magazines. These were for use in the US National Match course of fire, which has a rapid fire stage requiring reloading. If a detachable magazine was not used, then stripper clips were the alternative. IIRC, the bottom of the receivers required machining, and magazine housings/brackets with catches had to be fabricated.
What is the point of reworking a rifle to use M-14 magazines in Canada, though? The magazines would have to be blocked for five rounds.

The Remington 700 plastic chassis that Archangel is suppose to start selling will take them.

Yes and no. They start off as M14 mags but the feed lips/ top of the magazine is modified quite a bit to give centerfeed instead of stagger fed rounds. There is a couple videos on youtube that show the magazines that archangel is selling with their stocks. I'm 99% positive they wouldn't work in any M1A/M14/M305.

I do not think they start off as M-14 magazines. Like the AIA magazines, they are M-14 derived, but are new purpose made.

Ya in the video it made it sound like they were "modified", but it would make much more sense that they are newly manufactured and simply a modified design. Needless to say, the M14 guys exploded when they heard of a new bolt gun using a "new" M14-type mags that might/maybe work in said M14 and not have to be pinned.
Regardless, if the magazines are newly manufactured and not converted, I'm not sure why archangel didn't just go with the tried and true options that are on the market already. Maybe it's cheaper to make these new mags than buy AI mags...?

well they are an M14 style mag, so even though they are made from new to be different, they are still a "modified" M14 design.

also Archangel is made by Promag .. guess what they make? :D .. im sure its very cheap for them to make a proprietary magazine for their stock

Good call haha, I feel a little stupid now. I knew that too!

Yes the new archangel kit for the rem700 will accept a modified version of the m14 mag. Modified as in it basically is an m14 mag that is like a single stack mag. look it up
