I have an idea for a magazine and bottom metal system and was wondering what the potential utilization could be across 'common' bolt action rifles. What bolt action rifles have the receiver cut wide enough accept a staggered feed magazine, given appropriate bottom metal?
It seems like the vast majority of detachable magazines for precision rifles are double stack, single feed, presumably to have a smaller feed cut in the receiver for rigidity. As far as I know, only the AI AX and Sako TRG series explicitly feed from staggered feed magazines. Does anything else?
What about Remington 700 and 700 based actions? Savage and Tikka both seem to be single feed only. What about custom actions?
My system centers around varmint cartridges (long COAL .223 and 22-250 at the moment), so that may play into the dimensions for the required receiver cut for common short action receivers. IE, a single feed short action class magazine size might manage to stagger feed .223.
