bolt disassembly

The couple of cooey bolts I have seen both had a external thread type nut that threaded out of the inside of one section of the bolt .when you stretched the bolt apart . appeared you would need a special split fork tool to remove the keeper .as they had a slot on each side of the center stem that passes through the keeper .

I've had one for twenty years, and the question that comes to my mind is...

Why?

Cooey's don't need to be taken apart. They work. They work forever. One hundred years from now with the occasional drop of oil added to the assembly, it will function just as well as it had since it came off the factory floor. The Cooey 39 I refinished and had professionally reblued is just as good now as it has been when built some 70 years ago, and the guy didn't -touch- the bolt....
